The world’s most powerful passports

In light of the fact that the UK recently left the European Union, making their passport less “powerful” when traveling across the continent, we’ve taken a look at which countries have the strongest passports. What we are talking about here is not whether or not these passports allow access to countries, as all of them do, but how difficult things are in terms of the length of stay and the speed that it takes to cross the airport for holders.

Having a good passport helps you travel more easily, as does using the web to send money online helps you save on local currency costs. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the most powerful passports in the world from 2022.

Japan and Singapore
There is no doubt that Japan and Singapore offer the strongest passport to travel freedom. In fact, those who hold these passports are allowed access to 192 countries around the world, without even needing a visa.

Germany and South Korea
Germany and South Korea are second only to Japan and Singapore, whose citizens have access to 190 countries around the world without having to first obtain a tourist visa. Naturally, those wishing to live abroad must go through the visa process, but for basic tourism there is no need to do any work before arriving, provided you have one of these powerful passports.

European Union
Most European nations are signatories to the Schengen Area Agreement which allows free movement of people. This means for most of the inhabitants of the region that they do not need a visa to cross these countries and that they can do it as many times as they wish. Going back to what we discussed in the intro, there is no doubt that the UK passport is still strong, but leaving the EU has certainly damaged its credentials.

Top ten contenders
And finally we have the other nations that make up the top 10 most powerful passports. The United States allows entry to 186 visa-free countries, Canada and Australia are both linked, offering 185 destinations around the world that their citizens can enter without needing a visa.

The weekend
Not all nations are as lucky as the ones we’ve talked about in this list, and if there is a strongest passport, there must also be a weaker one. As you can imagine, these are currently passports that have been issued by Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan. Given the conflicts we have seen around the world, additional limits have been placed on the citizens of these nations, in the interests of international security. Those from these countries can still travel, but they have to go through an arduous process when it comes to obtaining a visa that will allow them access to other countries.

Do you have a powerful passport? And above all, are you making the best use of it?
